Scenes From A Photo Booth

Remember the old photo booths? There was something magical about being able to go in, close the curtain, and emerge a few minutes later with a strip of pictures to remind you just how silly you were!

I can't recall the last time I saw one of these booths. In the age of digital cameras and camera phones, I suppose they have become obsolete. What a shame.

These photos were taken in 1974, give or take a year. We were so tan that it must have been during our annual beach vacation. The faces I was making lead me to believe that I must have had a major sugar buzz going on. It was the only way I could stay awake long enough to watch Saturday Night Live.

I am the tall goofy looking kid. Both of my sisters have long since grown to tower over me. They are also really skinny. I love them despite all of that.

My middle sister is making the cutest faces! I'm not sure why she wouldn't show her teeth. Perhaps the front ones were missing. I'll ask her later. I do know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that she was wearing a dress. It's all she would wear back then. Now, not so much.

I'm also not sure why my baby sister has scrapes all over her face. Probably the result of a wave-riding fiasco earlier in the week. She, too, is making really cute faces. What the heck was my problem??

After you leave a comment, check out more retro hilarity at the Sincerely 'Fro Me To You carnival hosted by We Are THAT Family. You don't want to miss it!

I love those photo booth pictures too. I have some from about 1980 framed in a couple of places in my house. They're great b/c they were just how you were on an ordinary day.

I love the comment about tans b/c I was just looking at photos last night of us on vacation, and it was clearly a time before sunscreen.

I loved those photo booths.
Always going in with best friend, or the boyfriend and capturing the memories for a Quarter. So worth it.

Love these old photo booths. I still sometimes see them at the mall, but haven't been in one in a long time.

The pictures are awesome and I love the commentary.

I was addicted to those photo booths when my friends and I were old enough to have our own money and do it. My mom and dad never would give me the money... they though they were silly.

Of course they WERE silly, but that was the fun!

You all look adorable and tan! We never did the photo booth when I was a kid :( I did one in Jr High with my best friend, and then for my daughter's first birthday our little family got in one. I think you have to have some crazy faces in those.

Too cute! And it does bring back sooo many memories.
The dresses thing reminds me of a conversation I had with my step-sister-in-law. My kids, and hers were like 6 and 7 and SIL and her kids were down here in South Texas visiting from up north. Mine are both girls, hers a boy and a girl. I remarked that mine needed to go change into a play dress. She kind of sneered and said that her kids liked to play outside too much for her girl to wear dresses, they wore jean shorts and tank tops. I told her she probably wasn't used to the climate and it is much cooler in a sundress if your a girl and can get away with it.
She could see how cool mine looked compared to her little sweeties, and had to agree.

what a great idea! I love those photo booths too. We found one at a mall a few months ago after not having done one for 9 years. You inspired me to dig out those old ones and have a peek.

Some of my favorite photos from my childhood are from those photo booths. I have not seen one in recent years. If I ever see one again, I am going to shove my kids into it and let it start snapping.

Thanks for that walk down memory lane. I remember that if you had a boyfriend, it was MANDATORY that you have a kissing photo done!
