Sleepy Sunday

I just woke up from a VERY long nap. Jealous?

After church today, we headed out for a fantastic seafood lunch. I had crabcakes....YUMMY! So, there I was with a full belly. It was rainy and cold outside, and when we returned home I could hear my sofa whispering my name. OK, it was SHOUTING my name....as was that freshly washed blanket thrown over the back cushions. CB turned on the football game, and it was only a matter of minutes before I was sawing logs. Or, did I dream about sawing logs? Anyway, I didn't fight it, and I woke up about three hours later. I'll never fall asleep tonight, but it was worth it!!

I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday weekend. Ours was better than I could have imagined! We welcomed my side of the family into our home Friday for a belated celebration. The final count was 19. This included both of my parents and their spouses, both of my sisters and their families, as well as one of my cousins and his family. A great mix of personalities, coupled with more food than should be allowable by law, made for a day that went by much too quickly:)

As any good country family will tell you, Thanksgiving in our neck of the woods is never complete without shooting. Not to be outdone by our neighbors, the boys, AND some of the girls, went out to the field to test their prowess. Some were apprehensive, some were awestruck, some were just a little too excited about getting their hands on firearms! (One little brother was a bit nervous when it was his sister's turn to shoot. Evidently, he has not been very nice to her lately!) Others stumbled back to the house with silly grins plastered on their faces. The testosterone shield that surrounded the house encompassed a three mile radius. No animals were harmed in this experiment.

Keep in mind that we do have some City Mice in the family. Hillbilly life is such a novelty, and they were quickly captivated by it's spell. (Too bad they didn't hang around long enough to help burn trash in the burn barrel. Now THAT'S good stuff!)

Tomorrow it's back to the grind. I'm allowing myself a week to relish the Thanksgiving memories, then the Christmas rush begins in earnest. The sad part is...it will be here before we know it.

Glad to hear you had such a great holiday. Sounds fun.
It must have been going around today because my bed was calling me to come lay in it this afternoon. Two hours later, I felt wonderful. Although it didn't help me finish decorating the tree

First of all let me say that I adore crab cakes! Almost any kind of seafood, actually.
Secondly, isn't it neat to show "city folks" how neat it is to live in the country? I think it is so much fun to open other's eyes to a whole different way of life. I was raised in the country and lived there all my childhood, until I moved out and my job was elsewhere.
Anyway, I made a habit of emptying the utility room trash last so that the dryer lint was on top and it made the trash barrel so easy to light! Just a (really strange) memory/observation.
I'm glad you had such a nice time and got a nap today to boot!

You are living the life I used in Wisconsin! I have to admit, I miss the holidays! Of course it didn't sound like you had any issues with beer mixed with firearms! (Now thats a scary day!)

I am so glad you had such a wonderful time, and yes I am jealous! Having said that, I do feel better that the house is completely back to normal although Christmas will bring on another bout of rearranging! It is all worth it though, for good friends and family!

I hope you sleep tonight, no one should pay a price for a nap!

Nothing says Thanksgiving like the sounds of rifle shots in the background. They're going off right and left around here.

What a dreary day is right, perfect for napping. Instead of doing that, I had to go to WAL-MUTANT.

(The sound you hear now is the sound of me beating my head repeatedly against the closest solid object.)

So happy to hear you had a nice time...I am good with it all except the big guns...they scare the pooh out of me.
I suppose that is what they mean when I see those signs around here (in the woods) that say " No shooting allowed".
Suppose, you can shoot as long as there is NO sign. :)
I also love a good nap....better than air itself.
Take care,
Suz

I SWEAR my couch develops a French accent any time I walk by. "Come here, baby. You look so tired. Why don't you sit down for a moment and rest." And who can resist a frenchman? Not SSG.

I'm glad you had such a good time. I can remember plenty of times we went out shooting as a family. I was never a hunter like the rest of my family...but I did love shooting at targets!

I think you're living the life we want! We keep saying that if my husband's job doesn't survive the Big 3 mess, maybe it will be our time to finally leave this area.

P.S. You really burn your trash?

So jealous of your nap!
So glad to hear you had a good time. We did too with Fred's family...no nap here and a 2 1/2 hour drive to our Thansgiving destination! It was well worth it. I am very thankful to be a part of his great family.

A nap?? What is that?? You know I thought I heard shots while I was getting the tree up in the mist of 3 1o year old boys playing hide and seek! I just love the holidays!

All we get around here is the Crab Cakes in the freezer section at Walmart. Hmmmm-- just not the same, huh?
My hubby would love them!

Speaking of shooting.. I can look out my back window and see the little orange vests walking around! TOO close to home, to say the least!

Ahhhh, the sounds of gunfire! I can still smell the smoke. Fun was had by all and it helped keep us awake after that fantastic meal.

I just love a good nap : ). I used to avoid them like the plague because I would be up so late at night, but then I discovered melatonin. Have you tried it. It is a natural something and it just knocks me out like nobodies business : ). Glad your Thanksgiving was so special!
