Perspective

"I cannot conceive the Spring of lands that have no Winter. I take my Winter gladly, to get Spring as a keen and fresh experience."
-The Odd Farmwife, The Odd Farmhouse, (1913)

The weather has turned cold in my neck of the woods. I'm not particularly fond of cold weather, but this little quote has helped me put things into perspective.

As I drove home from work today, snow flurries swirled around my truck. I knew they weren't going to amount to anything, but I felt a childlike excitement as I watched the flakes dance about!

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a "White Christmas" this year? It's been SO long since we have had snow on that special day. Snow White used to put snow on her Christmas Wish List every year!!

Perhaps the cold weather isn't such a bad thing after all. It ushers in the Holiday Season, and deposits us at Spring's doorstep.

Are you starting to get into the holiday spirit?

Holiday spirit? No, not yet, but I can force myself like I always do.

I agree about the cold - my children saw snow this evening but I missed it on my commute home.

Anyway, you can't appreciate the newness and greenery and warmth that spring brings if you don't have something to compare it to...the gray, cold darkness of winter.

Sort of like, if your life were all peachy keen and hunkey dorey, you might take it for granted. It takes the little dips and bumps in the road to make you appreciate smooth sailing.

To mix a few metaphors....

We are still having 90 degree weather, so it is too hard to get into the spirit. As soon as we have a brisk day I will start to feel more like the holidays have arrived.
You make the snow sound beautiful.

To soon for that for me. BUT! I am enjoying the beginning of the fall weather for us. It is finally smelling like fall and I LOVE that. Can't wait till it's cold enough for a fire in the fireplace, ( Uh, duh...as that's where we try to keep them)
I even noticed the fall smell trying to overcome the poo smell the other day when I was taking H off the potty.
Believe me when I say it didn't, but, it made the poo smell much less bad!

Yes I sure am! I love this time of year despite the cold weather. We have had a few flurries but mostly cold rain...which is worse if you ask me. I love having a white Christmas and I think we might just have one. I'll put my tree up the Thanksgiving weekend if all goes well.

Oh, how I do not miss those crazy days at work! Glad you liked your gift. :)

I LOVE snow. I was so excited this morning to see a teeny weeny bit of it you would have thought I was nuts. We are so due for some in this part of VA.

Ho Ho Ho ;)

You can never appreciate the Spring without the Winter. Nor the Fall without the Summer. It's what makes life worth living;)

You said the word that FREAKS this former San Diegan out. SNOW?! Jeez woman! It snows like once a year in Portland, maybe an INCH at most and what do I do? STAY AT HOME ON MY COUCH AND HIDE. Let's not usher in anything except a fireman with a Santa hat. That's the holiday spirit I can get into!

I don't mind the cold. As long as it snows. But just cold or cold and rainy is just yuck!!

We don't get much snow, but the day I landed in Texas we got 8 inches....and it was Easter Sunday.

I miss skiing in So CA, and going to Banff Canada...I love the snow in dosages.

I hope you have a white Christmas too!!

Winter would be great..and snow would be awesome..if it lasted about 30 minutes! THEN BRING ON SPRING! I guess the quote worked better for you than it did me lol. Have a great day tomorrow...hmmm today I guess since I'm up so freaking late!

Nice quote. We are still very warm, but it is getting better in the evenings and mornings. I am getting into the spirit of the holiday season knowing I will not be burdened with running around buying gifts this year. I plan on enjoying everybit of family, friends and my fake christmas tree. :)

Oh, I LOVE that quote. I'm freezing here in Detroit and don't dare turn up the heat, so I am going to try to memorize those powerful words. (Not really, but I did sound industrious, didn't I?)

Ugh, snow is a near constant companion up here. We already had our first snowfall, but it's gone. I am hoping to not see any more for as long as possible! But White Christmases are the best.

I've been making Christmas cards to send out this year (I am the least crafty/creative person I know, so I must have decided to do this after hitting my head!). But I haven't dug out my Xmas music yet, so it hasn't felt very Christmas-y. But it's been kind of fun (and I will never admit to having said that!). :)
