No More Beans

The field in front of our house is a great source of entertainment. OK, I'll admit that we don't get out much. Don't judge! Anyway, since the first day we moved to this little slice of Heaven, we have enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the deer, turkeys and hawks meander through. Occasionally we catch a glimpse of a groundhog, or even a bald eagle.

The farmer who farms this property rotates between corn and soy beans. This year, he chose soy beans. Mid-summer, he decided that it would be a grand idea to fertilize this field with sludge. If you do not know what sludge is, do not look it up. You DO NOT want to know. Consider yourself warned.

This "fertilizer" certainly put a damper on our summer activities. Nothing like sitting down to eat outdoors with friends, and suddenly catching a whiff of Eau de Outhouse. It's a wonder anyone returned. Perhaps the smell was less noticeable when they were in the pool......under water!

We found it interesting that even the wildlife couldn't take the odor. I'm sure they ran as far away as they could. At least far enough away so that they were able to breathe! Fortunately, the smell has subsided, and our beautiful animals are starting to return.

I was SO happy that I was home early enough one day this week to catch a glimpse of the farmer in action.
Look at this awesome piece of equipment! I believe the brochure said it has central air and indoor plumbing.

I wonder what he has playing on the radio. I'm sure it's something about a girl thinking his tractor is sexy. Or something about a dog.

I waved to him, but he didn't see me.

The dust started to get to me a little bit.

But, he was gone as quickly as he had arrived. Mission accomplished.

The field now appears to be an extension of our yard. This weekend, I am looking forward to sitting on my porch and watching for the deer and turkeys. They will certainly be out searching for a snack in the freshly cut soy bean field. Hunting season is only a week away, and my beautiful animals will once again retreat into the woods....at least until the season is over.
What will you enjoy doing this weekend?

That is so cool. Well, not the sludge part. You are really living a good life on your slice of heaven. ENJOY.
Oh, poor animals..that darn hunting season. Not my thing.
I may work in the yard some more this weekend if it is not raining. Rain? that will be movies on the couch with some laundry thrown in for fun.

And I thought liquid manure was bad. I can't even imagine the aroma of sludge!

This weekend? I'm thinking a margarita. And then another margarita. And maybe another margarita....

Love the tractor and soybean field shots. Looks very familiar....

We'll see you at 3. I have the crab hat in the car already and am wearing brown sweater and coat, jeans, brown tennis shoes and will probably have a MHS blue blanket draped over me or the chair.

I love your view, lots of wildlife, minus the John Deere and sludge.
My weekend will have football, JJ, and my computer...three loves!

I'm flattered that I said something you found worth repeating...it's all yours :)

I'll tell you what I've already done that was enjoyable this weekend: Meet Big Hair Envy, that's what.

It was wonderful to finally meet you. I neglected to talk to you about my vision for an East Coast Blogapalooza (everyone'd be invited, but hosted on the East Coast). Since we didn't get a chance to discuss it, we should schedule some planning meetings, several, over a glass or four of wine.

Thanks so much for coming out to meet us. - cbw

Definitely a country song out there about both--tracker and dog.
What did you decide to be for halloween? Did I miss a post? Sorry, catch me up.

We have a friend that's a farmer...people don't realize how hard of work it can be. Great pics.
Weekend? Cleaning out our master bedroom so that it actually looks like a bedroom! If all goes well, I'll share pics soon.

I want to move the the country! Although Seattle this weekend WAS lovely ... and definitely no sludge around. But there were PLENTY of cocktails. So I felt a little like sludge this morning ...

Holy cats, I can't even imagine how much that John Deere cost!

When you wrote about the beans before, I assumed green beans and was jealous. Now that I know it was *soy* beans with a heavy side of sludge, I know better. Ugh!

I'm happy you get a brief time to view the critters before hunting season. :)
