Trash

When I was a child, I was taught to place my trash in the proper receptacle. Once the receptacles were full, the trash was either taken to the dump, or burned. If a large item needed to be disposed of, it was gathered up and placed in the pickup, and was taken to the dump along with the other trash. Trips to the dump didn't come along often, and I never passed up the opportunity to go!

Of course, back then, when dinosaurs roamed the earth there were no seatbelt or helmet laws. Children were allowed to sit in the back of the pickup and fight over who got to sit on "the hump", which was what we called the interior wheel wells let their hair become tangled beyond belief in the ensuing breeze! Their feet were usually bare, tan and dirty, and their noses were always a bit sunburned. Pure child abuse...;)

Unfortunately, today's children will never know the joy that comes from trips to the dump. You see, their parents think it's too far to drive. They also think that it's MUCH more convenient to just toss their trash out along the road as they head to, say, the grocery store.

These tires live on the hard surface road, just past our driveway. They have been there for so long, that the crews trimming trees around the power lines have begun to fill them with firewood. I've thought about planting flowers in them, but just haven't had the time!

On our way home from church last Sunday, we caught a glimpse of something shiny as we came up the driveway. I got out to investigate, and discovered a television in the ditch. Yes, a television. These folks didn't want to get caught dumping trash along the road, there's a fine for that. But, HEY!, there's no fine for dumping an old tv on private property because no one will ever catch you!! Right? Oh, how I wish we had pulled in behind them...

Wonder if it works?

What pigs. Why do people do stuff like that?

A few years ago we had a campaign wherein the former governor's wife did these anti-littering commercials where she said: I'm not your mama! Pick up your own trash!

Remember how riding in the back of the truck, the wind would whip your hair into your eyes and it would make your eyes water? Still, riding in the back of a pickup truck was good stuff.

I have never understood people that dump their trash in the ditch. It's not like they could enjoy looking at it either. And don't get me started on people that toss their cigs out the window...

I've had my broken microwave in the trunk of my car for 2 weeks. Be down shortly to dump it! :-)

Annie, please place the microwave beside the tv, and NOT out with the tires. I'd like to keep all of the appliances in one section of the ditch. Thanks!

I just simply cannot for the life of me understand why people do this kind of stuff! I'd like to catch them and take it back to there house and dump it in their front yard. I wonder if they pass by it daily! Asses! And now I know why you didnt answer my call last Sunday after church, you were too busy taking pictures!
I still go to the dump on a regular basis. You can go with me anytime. Just let me know!

I wish you had caught them as well...and you could have turned that TV a nice little hat for them.
I loathe lazy people. Slobs. Pigs.
I have nightmares about people like that.
Maybe you need a sign that says: I don't dump in your yard, why dump in mine?

Ridiculous, I tell you. We've found everything from refrigerators to dead cows tossed in other people's yards.

The cow had been slaughtered, and all that was left was legs and some other odd pieces. Some lovely human being decided to dispose of the parts by hiding them behind a brush pile in someone else's yard. That was a sight I will not soon forget.

Some people are just savages and do not care about anything.

Isn't it awful? My aunt and uncle live off of a very long, windy, country road that is really beautiful. Except for all the bags of trash, old couches and all manner of abandoned junk that lines it. Sometimes people who live in the country don't appreciate what they have enough.

I hate seeing things like this. It makes me crazy.
But if you have room in the ditch, I have a computer the blew the hard drive that needs a home. It would look great next to the tv and Annie's microwave!

Seeing stuff like this, especially on private property just makes me see red.

Where we live along the lake, we're seeing all sorts of this kind of thing...especially fishing garbage. The first time I step on a lure out here, or get tangled up in fishing line when we're out swimming this summer - well that's it! I'm going back to Maine!

I used to love to go to the dump in Mathews. Never knew what kind of treasures you would find. Also, we used to find old piles of bottles out in the woods. Got lots of cork-top bottles that way.
