Dear Joe Car Maker

Dear Joe Car Maker,

I understand that times are tight. We are all feeling the effects of the sluggish economy. However, I would appreciate it if you would consider once again installing turn signals in your vehicles. It seems that this feature no longer comes standard with purchase. The extra cost must be exorbitant, because there are very few people on the road these days who have them.

This plea is not only for me, but for all of the other safe drivers out there who rely on signaling to know if someone is, say, TURNING! How about CHANGING LANES? It's a simple thing, really, but many drivers do not seem to grasp the concept. Perhaps you could also include a section in the owner's manual that covers the correct use of THE FREAKIN' BLINKER!!! I recommend that you call that section "Chapter One".

Finally, I would appreciate it if you would find a way to make the interior of each vehicle a "dead-zone". This would ensure that the lunatic talking on her cell phone this morning would NOT have swerved over into MY LANE and nearly given me a heart attack! You see, no signal = no cell phone chatter! Problem solved! Lives saved!

Thank you for taking the time to read my list of suggestions. I'm confident that it will take an ACT OF CONGRESS for these requests to come to fruition, but I remain hopeful. In the mean time, I'll try to stay off of the roads as much as possible.

Yours in Road Rage,

BHE

Where's a police officer when you need one? OMG!!! I am so glad you are okay. It is a sitaution that causes me all kinds of anxiety by being in a car...not that I worry about my driving or that of HWM, but by all the other lunatics who think just know how to turn a key, that they have a complete understanding of how to operate a vehicle on a road.

I feel ya!

Add my name to the bottom of this letter too!!! Love the 'dead zone' idea...that would be great!

Had a near miss did ya? You know it is a habit that everyone should develop. I hear ya with the road rage. Sometimes it would be nice to carry Dirty Harry around with his 44 magnum and his "Go ahead make my day." For their tires of course.

I may not drive often being a NewYawker BUT I am a PEDESTRIAN .. one of those who hopefully can cross a street with the light and hope no one is turning illegally in NYC there is NO right on red but everyone from outside NYC seems to think there is so add to your list "Learn the rules of the road when you are driving outside your hometown" ... thank you for letting me turn your comment section in to my own post. xo

I hear you loud and clear. So many accidents due to no turn signals, cell phone talking and texting. Glad you survived!

Just a personal note....I have never loved anything about a car more that the SYNC blue tooth thing that answers my phone and places calls by voice activation. It should be standard along with the airbags and seat belts. Of cours I wouldnt change my AC for anything either.

So glad you are okay. I hatehatehate stupid drivers. The drivers behind our car probably wish we didn't have a blinker. Hubs is that "old" man that forgets to turn off the blinker. =)

Did you see the news article about the tow truck driver in western NY? He was hauling a car and talking on his cell phone while texting on a second phone.

He ran into another car (sending both of them to the hospital), sideswipped a second car and a house before coming to a stop in a swimming pool. Brilliant!

Oh, yes, it's an epidemic this failure to use turn signal.

Of course you know there is an even worse ailment, not as prolific, known as "I'm over 80, and I'm going to use my turn signal to make you *think* I'm turning, except I'm not. Pass me the Ben Gay."

This person is always wearing a hat, by the way.

Seriously, after the accident we almost got in this morning, I think people who are caught driving whilst on their phones outta have their ears ripped off.

I'm still having heart palpitations.

Now BHE, I DARE you to send this to the Big Three auto makers here in the USA.

You know, they sell Signal Juice at Advance Auto Parts and Pep Boys. $3.99 for a jug, and all you have to do is refill it and - voila! - your turn signals will work again. It's easy, people.

Perfect! You said it! What's worse is the yo-yo's who think it's OK to TEXT WHILE DRIVING! I don't get out much and yet, I have seen this several times.

So funny : ) Although I am sure it was NOT funny when you were driving behind the car that did not use their turn signals!
