98

Today my paternal grandmother would have celebrated her 98th birthday. She passed away two years ago on New Year's Eve. My life is not the same without her.

My sisters and I spent many summers at Grandma's house. There was no air conditioning, which taught us that it was better to get up early to get our work done, and to rest in the heat of the afternoon. There was no television, which taught us to find ways to entertain ourselves. There was a huge garden, which taught us that if everyone pitched in, the work would be light. There was homemade ice cream, which taught us the simple rewards of a busy day on the farm. Life lessons learned from a kind, gentle woman.

Happy Birthday, Grandma!

The photo above shows Grandma holding a six-month old Snow White. I had hoped that SW would be born on Grandma's birthday, but we missed it by three days. There are SOME things over which we have no control!!

You are so fortunate to have those memories! I never knew either of my grandmothers and that still makes me a little sad.

That sounds like a wonderful childhood full of things learned that are hard to come by today. I had a great-grandmother that was very much like that. ;-)

My Grandma would have been 110 on Jan 19th-- and I thought about her on her birthday too. She made it to 99. Grandma's can make a big impact can't they?

What a sweet tribute to your grandmother. I love that picture. SW was such a beautiful baby!

You jogged my mind because my paternal grandmother lived on a farm too....and I started to figure out how old my she would be...are you ready?

127! Seriously. She was born in 1883, had my dad at 40 and died when I was 28. Oh, the memories.

Some of my fondest memories are at my grandparents' homes. My grandmas taught me how to cook, and all of them (granddaddy included) taught me stories about our family trees. I LOVE your pic of Grandma Massey holding SW! So sweet....
