Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

My family will be coming over Friday to celebrate. I enjoy being in charge of the turkey. This year, I am going to brine the bird and stuff it before cooking. I got the idea last weekend when I was spending too much time watching the food network. The Neelys inspired me! I will use their brine recipe, and then stuff Big Bertha with onions, garlic, apples, celery, oranges, lemons and an assortment of fresh herbs. I'm also experimenting with an oven roasting bag. Switching it up so drastically for such a big event may indicate that I am psychotic. Please pray that it's edible!!!
What are YOUR Thanksgiving plans? What are your secrets for cooking the perfect turkey? What's your signature dish?

It'll be awesome. Those Neely's are somethin' else, aren't they? The Bird thinks I spend too much time on the Food Network. She may be right. I love to brine, too, and stuffing it like that lets air circulate around inside and cook better;) I won't eat one that has dressing all shoved up in there. gah. Now, I have to see about getting a flight to Richmond on Friday morning;) Have a wonderful day! xoxo

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and that your bird turns out just right!

We are going to be eating with hubby's family. First time us and all his brothers and their families will be under the same roof since... well a very long time. Should be fun!

Plans include my sister and husband and pizza .. no cooking ... no baking .. no clean up except to toss out the pizza box and empty wine bottle(s)

When I did cook, I made a fabulous stuffing which never ever saw the inside of a turkey .. it was made of sauteed chicken livers, mushrooms, onions, lots of real butter and bag or two of Pepperidge Farm CornBread croutons .. slow cook those livers till they fall apart than mix it all together and serve

Those Neelys are right up there with Paula Deen in my book. Love them. They're old school and they have so much fun.

My signature dish is red wine.

The End.

p.s. We have secured the oysters for Friday, just not clear on what time I'll be there. More than likely it won't be in time to have them as an appetizer but we'll get them there as soon as possible.

Don't work too hard!

I love me a brine recipe!

We're going to Vegas to be with family for just a couple of days. Low key, but not alone.

Enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving, and you are one brave girl. I can't wait to hear about your bash!

I'm cooking for the first time in about 15 years..can you believe that? I didn't realize I had become a professional guest!! I hate raw poultry..I gagged reaching inside (with a latex glove on) to pull the neck and other stuff out. Now I'll grease it up with butter and throw it in the oven. Yeah, I know...I'm just lucky that my family isn't fussy and they love my potatoes and pies.

ps..my daughter is sneaking JJ over which is a no no since I don't have a pet deposit. But then again, he's not a pet, he's family.

Angie, you are truly adventurous! I have never brined a turkey, but I have heard of several people I know doing it this year. It's supposed to make it cook much faster as well. I can't wait to hear how you liked it. Let me know!
Oh, my signature dish is a sweet potato casserole. YUM-ME!

I actually have a signature dish. It's my pumpkin/apple pie that I've been making for years. I even cut out little tiny leaf shapes and place them all around the rim. It's the best pie ever!
