Slimware

Just the mention of "portion control" is likely to strike fear into even the most seasoned dieter. How many of us were trained as small children to visualize 3 oz. or 2 cups? How many of us have the time, or the inclination, to weigh every morsel we shove into our gullets?

Our distorted perception of a "serving" has been perpetuated by our affinity for dining out. A single restaurant serving equates to about three times the amount of food we should be consuming at one sitting. ( "Would you like to Biggie Size that?" Just reading those words added five pounds to my Blogger Butt!!!)

One of the suggested ways to avoid overeating is to use a smaller plate. There is a product on the market that takes this guideline one step further....Slimware plates. Currently, there are four designs available. Each design incorporates "graphically-designated food placement areas as a guide to recommended food portions". There is a specific place on each plate for entrees, veggies, and starches/side dishes. Using Slimware is a great way to inject a bit of whimsy into the drudgery of dieting! It will also help take the guesswork out of appropriate portion size.

I'm going to order a set of the Urban Safari Print plates. They're my favorite:) Go check out the other fabulous patterns - I'm sure you will find one that you love!

Disclaimer: This post constitutes a shameless plug for a product that was designed by my third-cousin-twice-removed-by-marriage. (Lash, please verify this with your mother.) I drank the Facebook Kool-Aid yesterday, and came across his site....which is where I discovered Slimware. It's no coincidence that this product came to my attention during the Blogger Butt Smackdown. In fact, I believe I was destined to discover this product in order to be able to spread joy among cranky dieters. It's not chocolate, but it won't add pounds to your posterier.

Those are the cutest things!! I love the sun burst!

I have found another neat little tool. It is put out by weight watchers. They are ladles that are in portion sizes - like 1 cup. So you don't have to dip everything out with a measuring cup!!

That is such genius!!! really and they are pretty too.
I stopped using dinner plates about 6 months ago. We eat all our meals off of salad plates. even our salads. :)
but that does not stop some people (coach) from going back for seconds...but I can try, right?
What is up with all the facebook talk? I have it I check it weekly. nothing exciting. but then again, I only have 6 friends.
big surprise, right?

I"m so glad you're on Facebook. If I can EVER log onto the site again (daggone computer is not cooperating with certain sites), I'll add you.

You are so right about the portion thing. I've started serving up meals on the smaller dinner plates (I guess people with couth call those salad plates?)and it does make a difference. Not eating out does too.

GOOD FOR YOU! Congratulations on joining Facebook AND for sticking with your diet.

Very cute, but there aren't any matching desert bowls or salad plates. I use my salad plates like Suz. I've also gone all white in dishes and sheets. Crazy old lady I am!!

I will definitely check those out...I am always down for more dishes.

I have been using our small salad plates for my meal...it works in a pinch.

Watch out for facebook's coupon for burger king if you delete friends...

Love you,

Marlene

So piling it up on the plate until things roll off? Not such a good plan?

I had several things I wanted to leave in this comment, but then I read "Blogger Butt Smackdown" and now that's all I can think about. What the hell is that?

You may still have to contact your sister...does she work at Universal Labs, because that is where I have been sending our samples until we can get the work flow operating in the correct direction. We are looking for a new Lab Director...$$...and it is in downtown Portsmouth, accessible by the MM or JRB...give her my email if you can. THANKS BIG TIME!!!

I love this idea! I am still being a wimp about the diet thing... I. will. work. up. the. motivation. For now, this looks like an awesome way to start! I wonder what The Salesman will think about eating dinner on a pretty yellow plate with flowers on it?

Keep up the good work... you inspire me!

Very pretty! I like colorful plates. One time, when I was in Jr. High I saw an infomercial for this special plate that would help you eat less. It was insanely expensive, like $50, or something crazy like that. I begged and begged and when I got it, guess what? I still ate as much as always. The plate didn't help me one little bit... : ( I hope your plates help you though. It is very pretty.

Using a small plate works for me, and that makes me a feel a bit like a simpleton. You know, that I have to trick myself like that to eat less. But, hey, whatever works.

Plate? Who uses plates? I tend to just graze over the pan. Is that bad?
