One To Go

What a whirlwind this week has been! Is anyone else exhausted from all of the festivities?? For some reason, we just keep forging ahead through the fatigue....I believe that whole process is called "denial"!!! Like a child, I am afraid I'm going to miss something:)

I will be heading out in just a bit for the last scheduled family Christmas function. It will be bittersweet. We are going to my grandma's house. Grandma went on to a much better place last year, and this is our first Christmas without her. While I know that there will be lots of laughter, I'm sure there will also be a few tears. Things just aren't the same - and never will be.

It's been a year of new traditions. We have all been forced to come up with creative ways to celebrate the holidays. I think Grandma would be proud of the way we've handled things:)

The first two Christmases after my grandfather's death were very surreal. He died about 3 weeks before the holiday, so with the first it was still very, very raw for my mom and her siblings. Then a year passed without him and the next year it just seemed real. The one thing my grandfather had feared was that his family would stop gathering like his siblings had after their parents died. So, don't stop doing that.

And, as with all family gatherings, bring alcohol.

Yeah the Holidays are not the same when loved ones are abscent for whatever reason. I'm sure Grandma was smiling down at you all...and proud. And she would want you all to laugh and have a great time.

I hope you don't shed too many tears....

I am so exhausted there's no way I can drive over there today...BUT if you e-mail me the directions maybe I can go over later next week (no work for me, yahoo) and I can get pictures of the barn then. Also, at some point we'll need to figure out a planning day for Blogapalooza, but right now my head hurts thinking about doing anything other than lying horizontal.

Enjoy your day visiting with your family, and have some smiles and laughs so Grandma will see you happy and not sad.

A Merry belated Christmas...

Hope your New Year is filled with warmth, love, peace and prosperity...and oh yeah, lots and lots of wine.

After these two days I've gotten smarter and next year I'm asking Santa to just leave me the keys to the local winery. Christmas one day and the Little Imps birthday the next...oh yeah, lots of wine has been consumed around here!

Have a great time at your last Christmas bash. I'm sure at least her memory will feel alive in her home so you'll feel her spirit and remember the great times you shared with her.

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother. I'm sure she'll still be there in spirit but it is really hard the first Christmas when someone is missing. I know because my brother died, and the first Christmas was really hard for me and my sisters. Wishing you happy holidays.

I don't know how I missed this post, but I think your grandmother would be so proud of you and the rest of the family for remembering her....AND for the shout out on your blog.
