It's All So Clear Now

I have been trying to figure out why I've been such a Grinch about Christmas this year. Sure, we are cutting back just like everyone else, but that shouldn't impact my enthusiasm for this glorious holiday. I LOVE to send cards - not doing it this year. I LOVE to buy presents - haven't even started. I LOVE to decorate my tree - it's still in the attic. What in the world is going on?

Well folks, this morning I found the culprits. Their names are Personal Property Tax, and his evil twin Real Estate Tax. These jokers show up in my mailbox every year looking for money. They are never invited, and they certainly aren't welcome. BUT, they know that I HAVE to give them a check. When do they always decide to collect? THREE WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS! Sorry, I didn't mean to shout.

Don't they KNOW that it's the worst possible time of the year for an added expense? Yes, I believe they do. Why can't they show up in the summer, when I'm not stressed about finding the perfect gift for so-and-so, or about getting out of the store alive when I go to purchase that perfect gift ON SALE? I suppose they just don't care about my plight.

Now that they have been paid, I hope I can forget about these dudes for another year. I'm ready to get EXCITED about Christmas:)

Cindy Lou Hoo got over it, and so will I!

I hate being a grown up sometimes. But the Christmas Cards? I just ordered 100 of the photo kind from Costco's website...under $30. And they are ADORABLE! I pick them up tomorrow, too. Go check it out...It'll get you started.

I certainly feel your pain. Taxes, we all hate them and some are necessary but let me say this....

WE DON'T NEED ESTATE TAXES, OR INHERITANCE TAXES OR CAPITAL GAINS TAXES.

Do you think anyone heard me? All those taxes are on money already taxed...sometimes more than once!

I heard you loud and clear sistah! Don't even get me started on self-employment taxes, FICA taxes, quarterly taxes, estimated taxes, taxes on the money you might make six years from now, or just about any other type of tax. I'm being TAXED TO DEATH!

Yep, I feel your pain. I've got to go get my car inspected this month. And you know how that always goes. Car insurance is due too. Ick. And I always know these things are coming. I live in denial though.

Get the tree up, that will get you going and if you ever send me your contact info I might send you a Christmas card :)

dont get me started on that real estate tax shit.

the year I bought my house, the escrow was figured on an empty lot. I argued that it should be several times that amount, based on neighboring homes, but THEY wouldnt listen.
So of course I ended up owing a ton when the bill came. The next year, the legislature kindly passed tax relief that cut my bill by around a third. The same year a tax levy for new schools was passed that wiped out most of the "relief." Then this year, the county reappraised my house, and apparently having not heard that prices are FALLING decided it was worth $25k more than it was last year--more than wiping out the remaining "relief"

Grr...

BHE you need to set up the "follow me" contacts like Cool Breeze did. Then you will have my sweet face on your page permanently. Oh...maybe that's why you didn't do it already. Ok

I've been in denial about them there personal property taxes that are due here in Mathews this Friday.

I am hoping that by then I win the lottery. Or kick the bucket.

Whichever comes first.

AAAAAAAA-MEN SISTA!!! I gotcha!!! We are in the same boat, but the Hubby and I are doing things different this year. Instead of running around buying gifts and getting all torn up about traffic and stuff, we are donating! We are donating money, food and even time this year instead of giving gifts. We are donating these things in other peoples names for their presents. At first I thought it was the easy way out, but believe me The Food Bank and the Humane Society are in dire need this year. So, now, the Grinch has left the building and I feel like my heart is two hundred feet tall!!!!!

Oh honey, I know just how you feel. The Homeowners insurance and property tax is due right now, or actually very soon, and it is the WORST time of the year.
Here's a little tip that has helped me out TREMENDOUSLY this year.
Back in the summer I checked out Terry's Village, the catalog, on line and shopped the clearance section while there was free shipping and for about $50.00 total I got gifts for all the extended family. I kid you not. Things that were originally $30.00 were under five.
Look at them after Christmas! (When NO ONE has any money!)

YUP mine are due Nov 30th...sucks big time! Now bring the tree down from the attic...and maybe if it's a REALLY ugly tree...it will lower your property values...hence decreasing your taxes!!! YAY bonus!

Ohhhh.. how dare they show up! Unannounced too! Grr... now you are gonna get me all stirred.

Well.. I hope your festive nature comes out in full force!

Does take the "magic" out of Christmas doesn't it? Every Christmas has a different personality and this one seems to be a little dull and thin.
You'll get into the spirit of things soon enough. I know it!
