Heroes

WE WILL NEVER FORGET

On this day of remembrance, I'd first like to honor a very special person who blessed my life in many ways. My cousin, Billy, was killed in the line of duty on January 2, 1990. Click Here to view his "Officer Down Memorial Page" He was just shy of his 24th birthday. This hero lives on in our hearts.

I've been struggling all day to come up with a post that would be meaningful. Searching for a way to honor and thank those who put their lives on the line for us. On the eighth anniversary of the day that our great nation was brought to its knees, words just seem insignificant.

In true hero fashion, the local boys showed up just in time! They didn't seem to mind having a crazy lady ask to take their picture in the middle of a parking lot. Thanks for being such good sports, guys! Here's a GREAT BIG THANK YOU for all that you do to serve our community! May God richly bless each and every one of you.

You are correct, there are no words to put out there today for what this date means to all of us.

I am so sorry to hear about your cousin Billy. So young and out doing a respectable job...stupid drunk drivers, I will never understand them.

It brought me to tears to read your cousins memorial. What a senseless loss of a beautiful life. God bless his family, and his memory.

Being a fireman's widow, I can attest to how willing most firemen are to having their pictures taken!

There's a new young mother in our neighborhood whose husband was killed in Afghanistan in February. He had been home for a week of leave, and was dead several days after returning. She found out she was pregnant with their second child after he died and is due soon-ish.

I can't imagine having to make that kind of sacrifice, and I'm grateful there are people who are willing to do it. The rest of us will support our neighbor in any way we can. It's the small thing we can do to show our appreciation.
